1918 was a busy year in Irish and Joe Stanley's own affairs and pressures of a political nature brought consequences:

The German Plot, The Elections, 6 Raids on the Gaelic Press and Art Depot, Confiscation and Recovery of Sinn Fein election propaganda, Taking over Conscription Meetings and platforms, Electoral Canvassing for Sinn Fein -

Joe was a sub-agent for the election of Arthur Griffith in East Cavan and he and Michael Noyk were involved, Joe recalls a bit tongue in cheek " East Cavan was really won by Jack O Sheehan and myself, instead of talking seriously to public meetings we often sang songs to them" and in theatrical parlance won them over.

A variety of snippets enclosed "witness and print" capture the times . .
