Maire Nic Siubhlaigh recalls "we were the first Irish publishers of Christmas Cards in Ireland with Irish inscriptions"...
These cards were produced between 1913 and about 1918 and reproduced the work of different artists most notably George Fagan and Jack B. Yeats (ref History Ireland 2016 - see article below). Matthew Walker originally was producing these items in his Tower Press and when it became The Gaelic Press in 1913 he and Joe continued in the same vein. It is said that it was a priority of The Countess Markievicz to design an Irish Christmas card but at the time she was rather in-disposed being in jail. But among the many images Joe left us from his papers there is a design of one card by the Countess as well as contribution in Irish verse from Padraic Pearse who acknowledges in a letter that Joe might sell more with verses in English!.
